Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic Scholarships to Be Awarded to Navarro College and Georgia Military CollegeMt. Pleasant, TX, November 28, 2007 -- The Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic Committee today announced it will award a $1,000 academic scholarship to both Navarro College and Georgia Military College at the conclusion of the Fourth Annual Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic, to be held December 8, 2007 at Sam Parker Field in Mt. Pleasant. The scholarships will be presented in the name of each team's Most Valuable Player for each school's general scholarship fund. "The mission of the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic has always been to promote and support educational opportunities," said Terry Myers, superintendent of Mt. Pleasant ISD (MPISD) and a member of the Bowl Classic committee. "While the Bowl Classic will feature some of the most gifted athletes in junior-college sports, it's important to remember that for most kids, the key to future success is not what they accomplish on the playing field, but what they achieve in the classroom. Nothing is more important than a good education, and we're proud to support the scholarship programs administered by both Navarro and Georgia Military." In what has proven to be a popular annual event for both players and students, players from both teams plan to visit area elementary schools on Friday, December 7 to talk about the importance of working hard and staying in school. Event Information A tailgate party will begin at 10:30 a.m. December 8 featuring the music of Doctor Doctor. Pre-game activities are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., with kick-off to follow at 1 p.m. Southwest Junior College Football Conference Champions Navarro College will play against 4th-ranked Georgia Military College. Reserved seat tickets for the game are now on sale at the Mt. Pleasant High School Business Office. Reserved seats are $10 for chair-back seats and $8 for the remaining reserved seats. General admission seats are $6 and are on sale at area banks, Mt. Pleasant High School, the Mt. Pleasant ISD Administration Building and the Titus County-Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
