Miss Texas 2007 to Appear at Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic
Mt. Pleasant, TX, November 20, 2007 - Miss Texas 2007 Molly Hazlett will be a special guest at this year's Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic Saturday, December 8 at Mt. Pleasant's Sam Parker Field, where Navarro College of Corsicana, Texas will play against Georgia Military College of Milledgeville, Georgia. Miss Texas will probably be rooting for one of the teams - she attended Navarro College.
Ms. Hazlett grew up in Centerville, Texas. Representing Longview in the 2007 Miss Texas competition, she won the Preliminary and Best Overall Swimsuit Award and the Overall Evening Gown Award in addition to being named Miss Texas. She received $11,350 in scholarships.
Hazlett is currently a junior at San Houston State University where she has served as a Hurricane Katrina relief coordinator, was selected as a 2007 East Texas' Children's Miracle Network Celebration participant, and is a member of Chi Alpha and the Sam Houston State University mentoring program. She also owns a dance studio, which she opened at age 15. Following her year of service as Miss Texas, she will continue to work on her degree in Mass Communications. She plans to pursue a career as a host of a nationally syndicated television show.
"We are thrilled to have Miss Texas for the Bowl Classic for the second year," said Dan Emery, vice president of marketing for Pilgrim's Pride. "This event is really about pursuing dreams, whether on the field or in the classroom. Molly has been pursuing her dreams from a young age. She has performed with both Ballet Dallas and St. Louis Ballet. She opened her own dance studio at age 15. She is a great role model for what this Bowl game is really all about."
Ms. Hazlett will attend the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic Banquet at the Mt. Pleasant Civic Center on Friday, December 7 and will sign autographs at the Bowl Classic Tailgate Party beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
"Having Miss Texas here is just one highlight of the festivities for the Bowl Classic," said Terry Myers, superintendent of Mt. Pleasant Independent School District (MPISD) and a member of the Bowl Classic committee. "The band from Navarro College will perform, as will their nationally acclaimed cheerleading squad. One of our Mt. Pleasant High School graduates, Jaylynn Kennedy, is a member of that squad and we're excited about having her back here."
There are several other surprises scheduled for the day, according to David Davis, principal of Mt. Pleasant High School and a Bowl Committee member.
"We hope to have skydivers bring in the game ball this year, if it's not too windy," Davis said. "We have a couple of other things up our sleeves as well that fans won't want to miss."
The tailgate party will begin at 10:30 a.m. December 8 featuring the music of Doctor Doctor. Pre-game activities are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., with kick-off to follow at 1 p.m., pitting #7 ranked Navarro College against #3 Georgia Military College. During halftime, several lucky fans will have the chance to win a new Pontiac Solstice.
Reserved seat tickets for the game are now on sale at the Mt. Pleasant High School Business Office. Reserved seats are $10 for chair-back seats and $8 for the remaining reserved seats. General admission seats are $6. General admission tickets are on sale at Mt. Pleasant High School, the Mt. Pleasant ISD Administration Building, and the Titus County-Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
