Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic to Award First Education Scholarships to Blinn College and Pearl River Community CollegeMount Pleasant, TX, November 28, 2006 - The Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic Committee today announced it will award $1,000 education scholarships to Blinn College and Pearl River Community College at the conclusion of the third annual Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic football game to be held December 9, 2006, at Sam Parker Field in Mount Pleasant. The first-ever scholarships will be presented in the name of each team's Most Valuable Player for each school's general scholarship fund. "Since our inaugural game three years ago, the mission of the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic has been to promote and support educational opportunities in the region," said Terry Myers, superintendent of Mount Pleasant Independent School District (MPISD) and a member of the Bowl Classic committee. "While the Bowl Classic will feature some of the most gifted athletes in junior-college sports, it's important to remember that for most kids the key to future success is not what they accomplish on the playing field, but what they achieve in the classroom. Nothing is more important than a good education, and we're proud to support the scholarship programs administered by both Blinn and Pearl River." In a popular annual event for both players and students, players from both teams plan to visit area elementary schools Friday, December 8 to talk about the importance of working hard and staying in school.
Event Information Reserved seat tickets for the game are now on sale at the Mt. Pleasant High School Business Office. Reserved seats are $10 for chair-back seats and $8 for the remaining reserved seats. General admission seats are $6 and are located on the visitor's side of the field. General admission tickets are on sale at area banks, MPHS, the MPISD Administration Building and the Titus County-Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
